Serra Clubs of Columbus Extend Ordination Anniversary Greetings

Throughout the year, the Serra Clubs send greetings to the priests of the Diocese of Columbus, wishing them blessings on the anniversary of their ordinations. The effort reaches a peak in May and June, when the vast majority of the ordinations occurred.

Sue Stalter of the Serra Club of North Columbus finds the task enjoyable, especially in that it has reminded to her to send notes to the priests who have accompanied her in her faith journey.

Check the Diocesan directory to find your favorite priests’ anniversaries, and drop them a note of appreciation and congratulations!

Serra Club of North Columbus Vocation Luncheon for Boys

On Tuesday, November 5, 2019, the annual Serra Club of North Columbus Vocation Luncheon for Boys took place at the Jessing Center on the Josephinum Campus. The luncheon was supported by a grant from the Catholic Foundation.

Fr. Ed Shikina, parochial vicar for St. Brendan the Navigator parish, was the keynote speaker. He earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the Pontifical College Josephinum and credited Fr. Paul Noble, Director of Vocations for the diocese of Columbus, for encouraging him in his vocation. He showed the video, Fishers of Men, by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). This film inspired Fr. Shikina to compare vocations to the priesthood to the call to become superheroes—to be someone remarkable and do something remarkable.

Fr. Jeff Rimelspach, Chaplain for the Serra Club of North Columbus, provided the opening and closing prayers for vocations.

Students from St. Brendan the Navigator, St. Brigid of Kildare, St. Pius X, Immaculate Conception, Bishop Ready, and St. Francis de Sales attended the event. They toured the grounds and buildings of the Pontifical College Josephinum after the luncheon.

Serrans Salute Religious Sisters

Christmas in September!

Over 80 sisters from various congregations gathered at the Martin DePorres Center on Saturday, September 29, to enjoy a festive luncheon in their honor, hosted by the Serra Club of North Columbus. Since it was the Feast of St. Wenceslaus, a “Christmas in September” theme created much festivity!

Tables were festooned in red, with creches as centerpieces!

Each sister was entered in a drawing for door prizes.

Ginger West MC’d the door prize drawing in her inimitable style!

The Serra Club Choir, directed by St. Gabriel Radio’s Bill Messerly, led in the singing of “Good King Wenceslaus”.

A plentiful buffet of traditional Christmas dinner fare was enjoyed by all!

Serra North Moved by “Warriors to Lourdes”

At their August 6th luncheon meeting, the Serra Club of North Columbus  heard from member Patrick Kent, who captivated them with the story of his recent pilgrimage with Warriors to Lourdes. He shared a gripping and moving video explaining the annual trip to Lourdes for combat veterans and their sponsors.

Warriors to Lourdes is a cooperative effort between the Archdiocese for Military Services and the Knights of Columbus. For full details go to www.warriorstolourdes.com
