In late September, the Serra Club of North Columbus hosted a luau themed luncheon for the religious sisters of the Diocese of Columbus. Held at the St. Martin DePorres Center on the campus of St. Mary of the Springs, over 100 sisters enjoyed lunch and entertainment.
This annual celebration of the sisters’ dedication to the Church is one of the signature events organised by Serra North.
The Serra Club of North Columbus gratefully acknowledges the recent award of a 2018 Responsive Grant by the Catholic Foundation to help the club support its 2017 Vocations Awareness Luncheons. Each year, Serra North hosts two luncheons for approximately 300 eighth grade and high school students, focused on vocations to the priesthood or religious life.
At the 2017 Boys’ Luncheon, held October 3rd, Fr. Dan Dury, pastor of St. Catharine parish, regaled the audience with his vocation story in his characteristic enthusiastic style. The upcoming Girls’ Luncheon, November 7th, will feature Sr. John Paul Maher, O.P., Principal of St. Michael School.
This Catholic Foundation grant supports the expenses related to both these luncheons.
The Serra Club of North Columbus was awarded a grant of $1,399 by the Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Columbus to support the Club’s 2016 Life Awareness Youth Luncheons, which typically draw close to 300 students over two events held for high school Boys and Girls. These Luncheons are the signature projects of the Serra Club of North Columbus, and feature clergy or religious speaking on discernment of vocations.
The 2017 Awareness Luncheons are scheduled for the Boys on Tuesday, October 3rd, and for the Girls on Tuesday, November 7th.
